Wanted: Parents who value quality early childhood programs and are willing to share their energy, ideas and concerns with other parents, the community and staff.
Who are We?
The District 16 Early Childhood Advisory Council (ECAC) is a group of interested parents who have a child in Spring Lake Park's Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) or Preschool/School Readiness programs.
What does ECAC do?
- ADVISE - The Advisory Council is involved in many aspects of District 16's Early Childhood program development and evaluation, including policy, fees, programming, how money is spent and what events are important to the district's families with young children.
-
SPONSOR EVENTS - We sponsor a number of fun family events througout the year. Plans (so far) for 2007-08 include an Open House in late September featuring the Teddy Bear Band, our annual Halloween Party, the Snowflake Dance in January and Family Reading night and Book Fair in February.
-
COMMUNITY OUTREACH - The ECAC helps to inform legislators, school board, new parents and the community in general about District 16's Early Childhood programs.
-
RAISE FUNDS - Each year the ECAC manages fundraisers and determines where to allocate the monies raised. In the past couple of years, the ECAC has raised money to pay for new classroom furniture, playground equipment, baby bags, play/learn items, and many other things.
When does ECAC meet?
Most meetings in 2008-09 will be held the second Wednesday of the month from 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the Early Childhood office at Woodcrest Elelmentary. In order to allow new parents to join the ECAC, the first meeting will be on September 17, 2008 (the third Wednesday of the month). FREE childcare is provided. All Moms and/or Dads are welcome! Please call Kristin at 763-785-5537 to reserve childcare or to have any questions answered.
