Athletics and Activities 

 

Each year, in the Fall, on the last Saturday of October The ACDA holds it’s annual “Men’s and Women’s Choir Festival” The Event is held at St Johns University, just North of St Cloud. High schools are asked to select one women’s (SSAA) and one men’s quartet (TTBB) to attend. The students rehearse pre–selected music given to them with all the parts played separately on a CD, which is distributed.

 

On the appointed day, students travel from all over the state to attend. A Large men’s and women’s choirs are formed and are directed by several of the most prestigious directors in the state. They rehearse periodically during the day and perform a concert in the late afternoon. For about an hour in the late morning and mid-afternoon students, who attend, are treated to concerts featuring the best men’s and women’s choirs from colleges and universities around the state. Frequent performers are from St John’s, St Olaf , Concordia, Northwestern , Bethel and more.

 

There is normally a minimal cost for registration and lunch. Parent drivers are need to be arranged. Students are normally selected for The Concert Choral but there have been students form the other choirs selected also.

 

The ACDA also sponsors an Honors Choir programs for various grades. The 9th and 10th honor choir is the only high school choir. The audition deadline is usually in early November and there is an audition fee of $10. Students audition by sending a CD of them singing required criteria. If your child is selected for membership in the honor choir, the registration fee is $115.00 per student which includes fees for the guest conductor, accompanist, facilities, administrative services, lunch, snacks, T-shirt, CD recording of the concert, and two tickets for the concert performance. This fee is only due if your child is accepted into the Honor Choir. Selected students are given music to learn and required to be in attendance for rehearsal and concert in February.
