Choir - Officers & Student Leadership

Choir leadership is not to be taken lightly. Choir leaders represent the vocal music department as a whole, not simply a single ensemble. Leaders who do not take the job seriously, or who only work at it half heartedly, will undermine the excellence to which we are striving. All choir leaders must be self-motivated, responsible, and dependable. They must be able to take the initiative to lead their fellow students toward the success and betterment of the choir.

Each year and each choir is unique to its leadership structure. Even though there is a general format of officers each choir differs from year to year on how leadership functions. Once the personnel in the choir gets to know each other officer elections are held. The following are some guidelines related to what each position is responsible for:

Senior Class Choir Leadership
When a choir student reaches his/her senior year they have demonstrated commitment and dedication to our choirs. They know what’s expected and the rewards of hard work and tenacity. They serve an invaluable role in leading and training the choir. The other students look to the seniors as role models and mentors. Many serve as officers and section leaders. They also play an important role in helping to select the song for commencement. The seniors meet regularly with the director as a aspect of the choir’s leadership training.
