Nordic Skiing - Letter Policy

Team Member Responsibilities

  •  Have a positive, cooperative attitude.
  • Do your best.
  • Follow team and High School league rules.
  • Wear school issued uniform in all meets.
  • Recruit more skiers.
  • Be willing to help less experienced skiers.
  • Complete all workouts to the best of your ability. (No short cuts. No stopping early.) You will be skiing on your own a lot. You are expected to do all workouts even when the coach is not with you.
  • Please pitch in for gas for drivers. We need to drive to practice a lot, so do your share and help out.
  • Be on time for practice. We have very limited daylight.
  • Buy a Minnesota Ski Pass. They are cheap and the proceeds go to groom trails we use. (Consider buying a 3 Rivers Park Pass so we can go to county parks for a change of pace.)
  • Ski outside of practice.
  • SKI SKI SKI!!!!

Additional Lettering Information
  • Skiers with 100% attendance (not counting any "bonus" days) will earn a varsity letter.
  • Seniors with 2 or more years of participation and at least 90% attendance will be awarded letters at coach's discretion.
  • A skier must participate in all meets for which she/he qualifies in order to be eligible for a letter.
  • Coach reserves the right to withhold or award a letter in situations in which the point system is inappropriate (ex. lack of snow, illness, injury, or behavior detrimental to team).
  • Ski season is 14 weeks long (84 days). If you subtract Sundays and vacation days, there are about 62 days remaining. Subtract meet days and you end up with about 50 days of practice. Then subtract the days after November 15, when we don't have snow, there are 29 days (or less) of good snow. In a sport like skiing where technique is everything, you just HAVE to be at practice to ski well. Since we work on technique every day, missing a day hurts you, as well as the team. Practice is essential!

Note about attendance:
1. All absences, whether excused or unexcused, count against the total
2. Any absence from a practice or a meet must be cleared with the head coach
IN ADVANCE and IN PERSON (see team rules) or it is considered unexcused.
3. Three or more unexcused absences will result in an athlete's automatic  ineligibility to letter for that season.
a. EXAMPLES OF UNEXCUSED ABSENCES:
Work, Overslept, Forgot.
b. EXAMPLES OF EXCUSED ABSENCES:
Family obligations, Religious obligations, School work.
