Gifted Services
Spring Lake Park School District 16 mission statement is “High Expectations, High Achievement for All. No Excuses.” This includes our gifted learners. Gifted Services seeks to identify these learners and provide services to maximize their potential by providing educational challenge appropriate to their needs.
Beliefs:
- Programming for gifted learners must be developed uniquely with regard to their unique characteristics. To accommodate these differences,Spring Lake Park provides different Levels of Service.
- Identification of gifted learners should be inclusive and use multiple criteria.
- Gifted students need a rigorous and relevant curriculum delivered in a creative, flexible and supportive instructional environment. The learning experiences should incorporate higher level thinking, depth, complexity, creative problem solving, attention to learning styles, research, and independent study.
- Gifted students benefit academically and socially when interacting with their intellectual peers.
- Gifted learners may have unique social and emotional needs.
- Gifted individuals frequently experience differing rates for physical, cognitive, and emotional development, also known asynchronous development.
- Educators require professional development to better serve the needs of gifted learners.
- Partnerships with students, parents, school, and community are necessary to advocate and provide for the development of talents.
- Gifted programming and services need to be grounded in current best practice research.
