Current Initiatives

Program coordinators work collaboratively with staff and administration to:

  • Continually support students as learners
    • Provide different levels of service depending on student needs
      • Level One: Service for all students
      • Level Two: Service for students with high academic needs
      • Level Three: Services for students with exceptionally high academic needs
    • Support Teachers in the delivery of instruction for gifted students
      • Resources for thinking skills, extensions, enrichments etc.
      • Strategies for differentiation
      • Professional planning
      • Mentoring and coaching
      • Professional development at local, state and national levels
    • Support and provide enrichment activities for District 16 students
      • Field trips
      • Competitions
      • Challenges
    • Guide course selection and college choice
    • Facilitate affective groups K-12 addressing an array of issues from getting along with others to planning for college

  • Utilize current research to monitor, change and improve program practice
    • Evaluate and continue to strengthen identification selection process
    • Broaden the AP enrollments by recuriting and supporting students of color and students of other school populations not typically enrolled in AP and Advanced classes
    • Develop a professional learning network for teachers of honors classes
  • Support the district's strategic framework and current initiatives and individual building's projects e.g. engaging all teachers in the practice of personalization.
