Westwood Middle School Gifted Services

The focus of Gifted Services at Westwood Middle School is to meet the needs of students with gifts and talents and to provide opportunities for gifts to become talents through different levels of service.

Level 1: Services for All learners: Personalized learning experiences that are responsive to individual learners

Criteria for Placement in Accelerated and Honors Classes
A matrix of multiple criteria is used in recommending student placement in honors classes. Depending on the class criteria from the following will be used:
• Achievement Scores
• Ability
• Algebra Readiness Test
• Problem Solving Test
• Teacher rating scales
• Teacher recommendation
• Student interest and motivation
• Grades
• Motivation and work habits
• Evidence of quality work
• Demonstration of abstract thinking
