All summer Early Childhood classes/events will be held at the Early Childhood Center in Woodcrest Elementary, 880 Osborne Road in Fridley.  The summer session runs for eight weeks June 20-August 11, 2011. ECFE classsrooms are set for young children to engage all of their senses as they play, sing, create, build, communicate and socialize. Our Summer Mixed Ages classes will offer parents time to play with their children and time to discuss with other adults the joys and challenges of modern parenting. NO sibling care is available.

Do you have a budding scientist at your house? Then bring your preschooler to this class where we will explore science and nature together through hands-on activities. Each week will bring a new theme. During parent-child time we will explore units such as weather, bugs, trees, dirt, rocks and more. Parents will also have separate time to discuss the importance of science in their child's life and other topics.

Children need to move......and they move to learn. Music and movement are essential to the development of every child. This class will include many forms of active play and music in our ECFE room and outdoors. You will learn new songs that encourage movement. During parenting, moms and dads will learn how to give your kids a "running" start on learning, as well as ways to keep your child healthy and happy.

Let’s get together for four Thursday mornings for some "hands-on" learning. Families will will complete projects together that they can take home! Weekly themes include: playdough, tasty treats and outdoor crafts. So, dig out your imagination and creativity and enjoy some special time with your little ones. Children and parents will remain together for the entire class. Class fee: $35 for 1st child, $10 for each additional child.

Reading is FUNdamental! Brain research indicates that the most critical period for language development is the first few years of life. Parents need to nurture their child's love of books in order to help prepare their child for school. This four session non-separating class will focus on a new book each week. Class activities will help make the stories come to life and help with pre-reading skills such as alphabet recognition and vocabulary development. Let’s get together on Wednesday mornings for some indoor and outdoor play! Fun learning activities will be provided for parents and their youngsters. NO need to pre-register; just drop-in and pay at the door! Children and parents will remain together for the entire class. Sorry: School-age children are unable to come to ECFE classes.

Spend some special time being with your infant or toddler this summer. Enjoy fun activities, learn new songs and discuss concerns with other parents. NO registration is necessary-just drop by.
