Curriculum Statement

The curriculum will be established (within the boundaries of the program) by the learners in consultation with program staff and learner supporters. Each learner will have a continuous leaning plan (CLP) which will address the learner’s individual learning style, skills, abilities and interests, and the requirements of the State of Minnesota and Spring Lake Park District 16 for high school completion.

Curriculum is developed with three guiding principles:

· Take learners where they are.

· Focus on the learner as a whole person.

· Guide academic progress toward applicable skills and the awarding of a diploma.

Curriculum will be constantly changing as learners needs change, yet will be focussed on what skills and knowledge are needed for future employment and in the objectives needed for a diploma. Instruction will happen in multiple ways such as viewing, reading, acting, serving, learning by teaching, service to the community, experimenting, and using technology tools. Assessment will also happen in multiple ways. The learning environment can be both school-based and community-based. Instruction, assessment, and environment are learner-centered. Each course will have activity options that address different learning styles including, but not limited to, auditory, visual, tactile, kinesthetic, artistic, and interpersonal.

Program:

· Individual learner schedules will be determined during the first meeting with the director/advisor.

· New learners will be assigned a start date.

· Learners must demonstrate progress (credits and attendance) to continue the program.
