In sculpture students will understand the difference between 2-D structures and 3-D structures. Student will be able to take 2-D drawings and transform them into 3-D structures. Students will understand how the use of form and space can make a sculpture balanced and interesting. We will use a variety of materials to create quality 3-D art . Students will enhance ability to “see” details and create quality 3-D art through the proper use of materials. Students will also research the life and art of a sculptor.
Projects: Lines, Shapes and Compositions Practice, 2D to 3D Sculpture, 3D Shaper Paper Sculpture, Preliminary drawing for foamboard sculpture, Sculpture Artist Trading Card, Foamboard Sculpture
In Drawing students will start out using basic shading techniques. Create a blended value scale using the full range of value from dark to light. Students will utilize value to create a basic forms. Students will build on their skills while creating a variety of drawings. Experimentation with a variety of drawing tools, ebony pencil, no. 2 pencil, charcoal, colored pencil, oil pastel and chalk pastel is an important part of this class. Research an artist who used drawing techniques such as, Leonardo da Vinci and Albrecht Durer.
Projects: Value scale, 6 spheres in a variety of media, 3 Paper bag drawings, Cubist Inspired Value Drawing, Artist Information Trading Card, Two Step by Step drawings, Imagination Drawings: Combining all the concepts.
Students will analyze how Modern Art was an influential art form that covers many styles within a short time period. Students will answer the following questions during this course: What is Modernism and Modern Art? When did Modernism begin? Why did the Modern art movement begin? What is the significance of the movement? What styles of art are included in the Modern art form?What are the important artists of the time?
