Learning Alternatives Community School(LACS) is located in Spring Lake Park and is part of District 16 which includes Fridley, Blaine and Spring Lake Park. We support over 150 students sixth through twelfth grade and beyond with varied academic, social, emotional, and cultural needs. Our staff is high quality and work together on a daily basis so all students are making the growth they need to be successful and prepared for the future not only core academics but in problem solving, creativity and communicating with others.

The staff at LACS will take a responsive approach to personalizing learning and to assuring students are successful in reaching their full potential. Our school offers each student a high quality education with opportunities in many programs. LACS is for learners between the ages of 12 and 21 who are seeking success in an alternative setting. Instruction is individualized, learner-directed, and flexible. LACS offers a full time day, independent study and an afternoon program. Students can also be enrolled in their high school by day and attend LACS after school or take a single course during the day. We also offer a highly gifted and talented program, life skills and a adult education diploma program.

This year, the LACS day program implemented a Problem Based Learning model. Updates about this as the year continues will be shared.

I would welcome the opportunity to meet with you regarding your child's education and how we can meet his or her needs. Feel free to give me a call to schedule a tour or to answer any questions you may have.

Sincerely,
Bill Sommers
